January 31, 1979, CR 6407 was the leader and CR 6377 was the trailing unit of a Buffalo-Enola freight that rear-ended a stopped Syracuse-Enola freight. Both trains were to stop on the main for a northbound freight to take adjoining Muncy Siding. Tragically, the flagman in the caboose of the SYEN-0 and the head brakeman on the CNEN-0 were killed upon impact.Three crew members were injured. Seventeen month-old CR 6407 was scrapped.
Seen here the following day, CR 6377 has been re-railed onto the main. The close track was Muncy Siding, which has long since been eliminated.
CR 6377 was rebuilt. CSX took it in the Conrail split.
